Day 1

Transfer from Bogotá to Villavicencio, the gateway to the Colombian Llanos and famous for its folklore, gastronomy and unique landscapes. Spend your evening with a walk in the immediate surroundings – at sunset the probability is highest to admire the countless and colorful bird species. Here, at the foot of the Andes, in the transition to the wide open spaces of the llanos, an incredible diversity of tucans, macaws, parrots and other typical birds of both ecosystems awaits you.

Day 2

Early in the morning, you will check in at the Vanguardia airport. You will have a unique experience as you fly in an original Douglas DC 3 over the lands of the Departamentos Meta, Guaviare and Guainía. There are only a few aircraft of this type left, as the planes date back to the 30s and 40s of the 20th century. Enjoy this unforgettable memory, look over the vast landscape and feel the temperature and humidity change as you cross the transition of the Llanos to the Amazon Rainforest.

In the following days you will live an adventure in the Hills of Mavicure, as well as other natural and archaeological attractions in the department of Guania. You will have the opportunity to appreciate the flora and fauna, while interacting with the dolphins. Navigate in a rowing raft along the Orinoco River where the extraordinary Cerros de Mavicure are located. You will also learn about the different sustainable initiatives of the indigenous and local communities.

After your arrival in Puerto Inírida, you will travel about 2 hours by boat upriver to todays accommodation in the indigenous community “El Remanso” right at the foot of the Cerros de Mavicure. After lunch, you will have the opportunity to go on a first hike or paddle, depending on the water level of the Laguna de las brujas (Witch’s Lagoon). While there, your local guide will tell you some legends of the region.

Day 3

At daybreak, hike to the top of Cerro de Mavicure. The hike to the lowest of the three sugar loaf-shaped mountains takes about 1.5 hours. You will be rewarded with a magnificent panorama of the rainforest. You can spend the afternoon relaxing on the river beach or take a short boat trip to observe the pink river dolphins if you are lucky. In the late afternoon, make your way downriver towards the indigenous community of “La Ceiba”, where you will spend tonight.

Day 4

Sustainable productive initiatives are being developed and ecological services expanded in the community of La Ceiba, which will introduce you to the Ruta de la Miel (Honey Route), a promising way of great importance for sustainability.  Afterwards, you will drive to the source of the Great Orinoco. Here you can see the river star Inírida and the tributaries Inírida, Guaviare, Atabapo and Orinoco. On the way, enjoy a swim in the waters of the Atabapo River in the Piedra de Maviso border area with Venezuela, finally reaching the MORU Nature Reserve.

Day 5

On your last morning in the department of Guainía, you will have the opportunity to go on a hike through the MORU Nature Reserve to get to know the matave jungle forests in the neighbouring department of Vichada. Another option is the in-house canopy, the tour begins with a climb into the treetops to reach the first platform in the treetops. Here begins the trek through the forest of the northeastern Amazon across bridges between the trees at lofty heights of 15 metres.
In time for your flight, you will be taken back to the airport in Puerto Inírida.
