Utría National Natural Park lies on Colombia’s Pacific coast in the department of Chocó. It stretches between Bahía Solano and Nuquí. The park combines mountains, tropical rainforest, mangroves, beaches, and coastal waterways. Here, the jungle meets the Pacific Ocean in a spectacular setting.
The region receives some of the highest rainfall levels on Earth. As a result, it supports an extraordinary variety of plants and animals. The park protects more than 54,000 hectares of land and marine habitats. Monkeys, colourful birds, amphibians, and sea turtles live among its diverse ecosystems. From July to October, humpback whales also visit the coast to mate and raise their calves.
Visitors can explore the park in many ways. Hike through the rainforest or kayak through mangrove channels. Boat trips offer beautiful views of the coastline. You can also go whale watching, snorkel near Playa Blanca, or hike to secluded beaches such as Playa Cocalito.
The forest offers a different experience after dark. With a local guide, visitors can look for nocturnal wildlife and even spot bioluminescent fungi along the forest floor.
